The beauty world is about to get a little edgier. This May, Topshop -- every fashionista's favorite British retailer -- will introduce a cosmetics line.Consisting of both permanent and seasonal collections, the line will be sold in all Topshop locations, including their U.S. outpost in New York City, and online via their website. Manufactured by Intercos, the permanent (read: basics) collection will include 97 products encased in fun packaging -- Topshop designer Lizzie Dawson explains in WWD, "It's playful, almost like the Topshop girl drew it herself." The company plans to put out more "experimental" trend collections four to six times a year. Topshop execs see color as a valuable way to appeal to clients in a wavering economy. "If shoppers can't afford a new outfit, then they will go for a new nail polish," Dawson told WWD. Products will range in price from $8 to $20, with trend items ringing up at about 10 percent more. While this is not the retailer's first foray into cosmetics, this venture is new from the ground up. Ooh, I wonder when this line will launch in Asia, if it will at all.
