Safe 'N Beautiful Nails

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, In : Reviews
Pregnancy is a difficult phase in a woman's life. So from the time we learned we were expecting, I made it a priority that this pregnancy would be a happy one. Meaning, I don't deprive myself of foods I crave for, I let myself enjoy being pampered and I didn't skip my beauty routines. But the only thing I'm quite uptight about is getting toxic chemicals into my system. So the search for beauty products that are pregnant-friendly has been the goal every time I shop.

My nails have been neglect...

La Petite Robe Noire Lipsticks

Posted by Dior Co on Friday, April 1, 2016, In : Reviews
A few weeks ago, I received an invite from Guerlain to celebrate the expansion of its iconic La Petite Robe Noire fragrance collection into a world of colour. After last year's successful launch of their KissKiss lipsticks, I was pretty curious what their new lipstick would be.

La Petite Robe Noire Shiny Lip Colour comes in 20 shades and the Shiny Nail Colour in 8. The packaging of both the lipsticks and the nail lacquers, inspired by the bottle of the perfume, is to die for. I'm sure a suck...

Colorful Glowing Nails

Posted by Dior Co on Friday, April 1, 2016, In : Reviews
I've always loved summer. It's the only time of the year when you can go a bit playful and experimental and get away with almost anything, fashion-wise. And with the runway trends tilting towards more vibrant colors, why not head that way too in choosing the colors to put on our tips?

Girlstuff, one of the local brands I truly believe in, has recently launched their colorful summer collection and Solique UV-Glow Gel Top Coat, a revolutionary product that can make any nail color glow under UV l...

Feel So Good This Christmas

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, November 26, 2015, In : Reviews
It's that time of the year again when we head over the malls to find that perfect gift for our loved ones. Every Christmas, I'm thankful for the many brands that offer us gift sets that make it easier for us to shop. And one of my favourite stores to visit is The Body Shop. Not only do they have tons of gift sets to offer, they're also value for money!

This year, The Body Shop welcomes us to Feel Good Wonderland where they invite us to embark on an journey to an enchanted world filled with se...

Review: Solique Gel Polish

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, In : Reviews
Since the first time I heard that studies show that women who have nail polishes on their fingertips are more productive at work than women who don’t, I always make it a point that I get weekly manicures. It sucks though how easily manis get ruined. Then comes gel polish to the rescue, but then the UV light that activates the gel formula is harmful to the skin. So I never really tried that. I went on with life with regular polish – that is until last week when Girl Stuff, the local nail p...

Girl Stuff Blogger's Elite Summer Collection

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, In : Events
Known for their formaldehyde-free formula, Girl Stuff has recently launched their Blogger's Elite Summer Collection last month at Stacy's BGC.

Before the program began, guests of the event had their nails done using the Elite Summer Collection shades embellished with some nail art.

Since I just did my nails the night before the event with a coral lacquer, I just topped it off with some sparkle using Girl Stuff polish in 24K.

One of the inspirations behind the Blogger's Elite Collection, Nikki T...

POPs of Colour

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, February 16, 2015, In : Reviews
Though a fan of natural makeup, I still have those days when I'm in the mood for a bit of unexpected pops of colour. My daily makeup kit has tons of neutral colours, but I do have a stash of neons and brights for editorials and high fashion shoots that require them. So when I received an invite from Glamourbox for the launching of yet another interesting makeup brand, Pop Cosmetics, I knew these would go directly to what I call my "fun makeup kit".

These customized sweet treats in the form of...

Ciaté Loves Manila

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, October 9, 2014, In : Events
Being in the beauty industry for about eight years now, I realized that it's not just about the face anymore. Makeup and skincare aren't the only things being considered when "beauty" is the topic of the day. Nails, for one, had been given much attention lately due to the trends we saw in the runway. And I, personally, had been into this trend too! With bi-weekly mani and pedi appointments, DIY nail art and whatnot, it's no secret the nail industry is taking a big chunk of the beauty industry...

Feet Fête

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, November 14, 2013, In : Event
Nail and Co., the go-to nail salon of most BGC residents, is having a feet celebration this weekend in partnership with local shoe brand Renegade Folk. On November 15 and 16, they are throwing in a free pedicure for every purchase of Renegade Folk sandals from their Holiday 2013 collection.

100% of the proceeds from that weekend will go to the victims of Yolanda.

I was fortunate enough to get an invite to try out their services and went home with a free pair of Renegade Folk sandals too!).

Louis Phillip Kee Opens in Acropolis

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, In : Reviews
"Stylist to the stars" Louis Phillip Kee opened his third branch in C5 Acropolis to serve the Libis community with his expert skills and know-how. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet the man and have his highly-trained staff not only work on my mane last week, but also have them pamper me for half a day.

Upon stepping into the beautifully designed space of the salon, the first thing I did was look into the menu to see the complete range of hair styling and beauty services they offer for wom...

Luxe Pampering at Lulu Nails Salon

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, June 20, 2013, In : Reviews
One of the few luxuries I allow myself to splurge on is what I call "beauty pampering". Whether it be on a facial, a massage or a haircut -- I just think that we all deserve a treat after days of working hard. However, everywhere's congested nowadays that it's difficult to find a quiet spot in the metro. I'm in a phase in my life that I'd rather go a place where I won't be seen, even when just dining out.

Lulu Nails Salon and Dry Bar is one of the few spaces I can consider a haven. Unlike oth...

Imperative Nails

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, October 29, 2012, In : Reviews
When the nail art craze arrived in Manila early 2008, I wasn't one of those who immediately ran to nail salons to have tiny bits of accessories attached to my tips. It wasn't practical for someone who uses her hands daily for her craft to attach so many foreign objects on her nails. Maybe the prints were too much for me to handle, or it was just too high maintenance. I just want my nails in one color or in classic french tips. No way will I attach an acrylic or have gel glued on my nails with...

Oscar de la Renta Nails

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, In : News
You'd know a certain fashion house or brand is growing when it starts expanding. And what better way to do so than by growing your business from fashion to the beauty industry. This seemed to be a trend that started a couple of years ago when such designers such as Tom Ford and Michael Kors diversified their business from apparel to cosmetics. Today, one of my favorite designers, Oscar de la Renta, just launched to the public its to-die-for first-ever beauty products in its line -- nail polis...

Essie Pretty Edgy

Posted by Dior Co on Friday, October 29, 2010, In : Reviews
I was so out of my element today. Bad timing to run around the metro for errands before my flight to Bangkok tonight. Thank God for Piandre Greenbelt where I found an hour of solace before going back to tying loose ends. Quickfix of the day: Mani and pedi.

Essie in Pretty Edgy

I chose Essie in Pretty Edgy, one of the three shades of Essie Summer Collection 2010. Lately it's all purples and taupes here and there because well, it's already fall! For a change I wanted something lively and war...

Think Pink This October

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, October 11, 2010, In : Trend Reports
Each October, hundreds, if not thousands, of products are emblazoned with pink ribbons, colored pink, or otherwise sold with a promise of a small portion of the total cost being donated to support breast cancer awareness or research. You can support the cause by, well, shopping. In my case, since there are only a few beauty companies launching breast cancer awareness products in our country (US has dozens of cosmetic giants promoting products for the cause this month like Avon, Revlon, Aveda ...

Justin Bieber Nail Polish

Posted by Dior Co on Friday, October 8, 2010, In : News
He's already crooned and danced his way to the top of the music world, and now Bieber is taking on... beauty?! Believe it or not, the answer is a big yes. The young pop star teamed up with nail care company Nicole by OPI to create The One Less Lonely Girl Collection, which will launch exclusively at Walmart this December. Beginning in February 2011, it'll also be sold at Target, Sears, and Ulta stores. JB may not be a nail polish-wearing dude like some of his punk rock cohorts, but his hit so...

I'm a bit late on this one, but I'm still posting it. Anyway, Essie's Fall 2010 Collection is out since September and features six lovely new shades for us to paint our nails this Ber months. I must say: I like all six of these shades and is having a hard time picking a favorite. I think they'd all look appropriate as we get into the cooler months. Here are the shades:

  • In Stitches: cheeky blush pink
  • Limited Addiction: racy garnet red
  • Sew Psyched: cashmere-soft sage pewter
  • Merino Cool: sensuous a...

Evil Reigns in MAC

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, October 4, 2010, In : Collection

Aside from its highly pigmented formulas, MAC is also known for numerous genius collaborations. From Hello Kitty to Barbie to Liberty of London to Stacey Bendet, MAC really knows how to make its users queue for limited edition cosmetic collectibles. As of the end of Septemnber, the beauty giant unveils its latest launch, Venomous Villains, which came as a result from a partnership with Disney. Rather than curate a collection around much-loved heroines, attention was turned to the bad guys—o...

Gray Nails for Fall 2010

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, August 26, 2010, In : Trend Reports

While black is a wardrobe staple for many women, its appearance on fingertips may be a touch too moody for personal or workplace tastes. That's why this year's fall seasonal nail colors are so fantastic: the muted shades of putty, gray and greige (a mix of gray and beige) complement all skin tones and offer a slightly toned-down way to be edgy and trendy. I've never been one who's welcoming of trends in a snap, especially when it contradicts my style and personality, but I gave this trend a t...

Chanel's First Ever Celebrity Nail Artist

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Interviews

I'm always amazed by stories of how an ordinary human being shifts from a secured job to a life-transforming career. Exhibit A: Tom Bachik makes for an unlikely manicurist. A California skater boy with a graphic design background, Bachik fell into the nail business in 1994 and has since built up an impressive clientele (ScarJo, Gwen Stefani, and Victoria Beckham are all fans). It’s thanks to his Hollywood cred that Chanel—a brand that has recently become as famous for its ready-to-wear na...

V for Victoria

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, April 26, 2010, In : Make-up Looks
Word is spreading around the blogosphere about Victoria Beckham’s new cover spread for the May issue of Vogue Germany. The conversation mostly surrounds a rather racy image of VB straddling a duck-shaped playground figurine. I, of course, am more concerned with a few particularly noteworthy beauty tricks, courtesy of face painter Fulvia Farolfi and manicurist-to-the-stars Tom Bachik. To properly give Posh the dark, seductive quality appropriate for women who scandalize children’s toys, Fa...

Gray Nails At NY Fashion Week

Posted by Dior Co on Monday, February 22, 2010, In : Trend Reports

Last February 17 at Oscar de la Renta, manicurist Yuna Park applied a totally lust-worthy deep asphalt lacquer to models’ fingertips. “I couldn’t find the right shade so I had to make this one,” Park told the media, dashing any hopes we may have had about getting our hands on a bottle. But all is not lost: Park used a nearly identical grayish-blue varnish the next morning at the L’Wren Scott show. (Even Scott herself was sporting it and reportedly created this version with Lancôme...

Serena Williams Trades In Her Tennis Racket For A Nail File

serenaw_main.jpgImagine walking in for a manicure appointment...and having one of the most style-obsessed women in sports ready to do your buff and polish. Serena wrote on her blog that she's enrolled in a 240-hour program to become a certified nail technician just after returning from the Australian Open. She'll spend the year (normally a six week program) getting her certification. She wrote, "No one likes getting their nails done more than I do. As a matter of fact I go every 4 days to get a manicure and ...

Alice Goes From Wonderland to Your Beauty Shelves

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, In : Collection
If you were among the millions of people who flocked to see Avatar in 3-D when it came out last month (or, perhaps like us, you’ve seen it twice after a misguided 2-D experience left you wanting more), you’ve witnessed the preview for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. The 3-D visual spectacular will likely garner plenty of oohs and ahhs when it finally debuts in March. Until then, there are a few beauty collections inspired by the film to keep your impatience at bay. OPI has put out fou...

Sad Fact: Your Nail Polish Has A Shelf Life

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, In : Tips
One late night, a friend IM-ed me and asked about the shelf life of nail polish. You see, just like me, she does her nails DIY style rather than lavishing her bucks in nail salons. We both admitted to stockpiling bottles of lacquer in cabinets, drawers, and boxes—anywhere you can safely store limited-edition Chanel offerings to go-to colors from Essie, Nars, OPI, and Zoya to generic local Asian brands — but there was bit of indecision between us as to how long we could feasibly keep up th...

Michael Kors Does Make-up

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, In : News

Michael Kors is the latest designer to embrace the world of color cosmetics. The Project Runway judge has inked a deal with Estée Lauder to bring his "Very Hollywood" concept from fragrance to makeup. Scheduled to launch in January, the 19-piece line is awash in beige, corals, pinks, and shimmer. Less about “heavy makeup” than it is about a “sporty glow,” the collection is an homage to a low-key, modern Hollywood glamour that the designer equates with wearing flip-flops and eating gr...
