Unlike most women, I highly crave meat and protein-rich food than carbs. I'd gladly pass up on dessert to devour a lean piece of steak. I cannot give up eating meat, though I've tried doing so a couple of times in 2006 after seeing a video on animal rights by PETA. It has saddened me to realize I can never be a vegetarian. But even so, I still advocate animal rights, being a pet owner myself. So here's something to help support an advocacy on animal rights:

You have been so great about your new exercise routine, rarely missing a day since you started up again. Then all of a sudden you are waylaid by a cold or flu. I hope for your sake that you are able to get through this rainy season untouched. Unfortunately, I caught some cold bug and I'm as frustrated to no end. So what should I do? Should I skip yoga or forsake that Pilates class for a late afternoon nap?
The dilemma: I feel like crap but I feel guilty for not lacing up my shoes and going f... Continue reading ...

Dr. Mehmet Oz is now the daytime talk show host who comfortably slid into Oprah’s 4 p.m. time slot after Winfrey left network television last month. And this week marks the official launch of YouBeauty, a new website that Oz developed with Dr. Michael Roizen based on the idea that beauty can actually be the key to ultimate health. It’s a unique Web concept: You take a series of quizzes that measure everything from individual happiness, stress, and physical activity levels to skin and hair... Continue reading ...
Raising the Barre

It’s been almost 6 months now since I was first invited to attend a Barre3 session. At that time, I was focusing on my yoga routines and didn’t really think of shifting to Barre3 but tried it anyhow. After an hour of self-inflicted pain, I shrugged it off my shoulders and continued focusing on yoga alone until last month, when I got another invite for another Barre3 session. To be honest, I really didn’t know if it’s wise to permit myself to another struggle, but I just went for it, ... Continue reading ...

"That first silver strand is a defining moment – and used to signal the start of middle age. For a woman, it’s one of the most defining moments of getting older — that day when you peer into the mirror and spot your very first silver strand of hair,” says Claire Coleman of Daily Mail UK.
A woman expects her first grey hair to appear in her late 30’s or 40’s. But new research reveals a worrying trend. The alarming news for women today is that we are losing our natural hair color ... Continue reading ...
Lipo for Fat Removal?

When a close friend told me yesterday she’s planning to go under the knife for liposuction, the only response I was able to utter was, “Seriously?” Even as someone who’s not against cosmetic surgery, lipo seems to be going way too far. I mean, a bit of snip and snap in the nose or eyelids is fine, but having fat vacuumed out from under the skin? Not only does the recovery period stretch as far, I’ve also heard news about people dying while being operated on the table. Continue reading ...

Just in case you were looking for another good reason to eat your vegetables, here it is: They make you beautiful—and not just in some vague, a-good-diet-gives-you-a-healthy-glow sense. Researchers at St. Andrews and Bristol universities in Great Britain studied the relationship between skin color and attractiveness, and discovered that people with yellow undertones to their skin were thought to look particularly healthy and attractive. The study, reported in the Daily Mail, also establishe... Continue reading ...

Never athletic, sporty or fit, I've gone through life neglecting the health and fitness aspect of it because I was to lazy to lift a finger. I attempted to improve my body a couple of times in the last few years. I tried a membership to the top gym in the metro in college, badminton after graduation, and swimming after I realized I don't have the patience to gather everybody everytime for a badminton session or inflict myself with pain at the gym. Swimming is the only one I stuck to but I ca... Continue reading ...

1. Sun Protection Aside from daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, boost your UV protection all year by taking an antioxidant supplement such as Heliocare. New r... Continue reading ...

YOU: Being Beautiful: The Owner's Manual to Inner and Outer Beauty is the follow-up book to Roizen and Oz's current bestseller YOU: Staying Young. The book gives a holistic approach to beauty as it targets three dimensions of beauty: looking beautiful, feeling beautiful and being beautiful. I've got this for myself in 2008 but didn't really have the chance to open it until yesterday when I was looking for a book to start after finishing my last fiction.

Sipping only hot or warm drinks might do more harm than you'd expect. I happen to know a couple of friends and relatives who avoid drinking cold drinks to avoid slowing down their metabolism. I even know someone who proclaims that she lost five pounds just by drinking hot drinks for a month! New studies suggest that one of the best ways to take care of your skin is to keep your body cool. Even though you might not be out in the sun as much, anything that raises your body temperature—be it s... Continue reading ...

Turns out that night creams and facelifts can only do so much to combat the signs of aging, according to a study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Physicians at the University of Rochester Medical Center have found that our facial bones change pretty dramatically as we age, largely contributing to an older appearance. CT scans of 120 hospital patients showed that the most noticeable shift was that the angle of the jaw increases. (Seriously, check out the photo in...
