Under: Tips
Q: Is it damaging to wear your hair in a ponytail every day? I think I look better with my hair in a ponytail but I'm scared it the elastics damage my hair.
A: I, too, am currently loving the elegance of a ponytail especially now that I'm in the middle of growing my hair out. Unfortunately, your suspicions are right: Tying your hair back every single day can be damaging to your locks, unless you practice some tress TLC. To keep this style without causing breakage, follow these two rules. First, choose bands that are covered with a fabric like silk or cotton (never use rubber or plastic) and that don't have any hair-snagging metal pieces. Second, spritz a light silicone spray over your tresses before you put your hair up, so your locks will glide against the band without too much friction that can cause splitting. I like Kiehl's Silk Groom Serum. A cheaper yet almost as effective alternative is Vitress Hair Cuticle Coat that costs around P80.
