In tropical country like ours, the cool breeze of the holidays is definitely a breather. But I can never contest the happiness I feel when the temperature starts to rise up again. This only means one thing: sunny days are back! So what better way to celebrate the beginning of spring than to actually wear it?
Inspired by the spring and the delight and vivacious spirit it brings, Tous launches three fragrances that radiate purity, serenity and innocent charm.

As a child, I've always been fascinated with my mom's make-up kit, figuring out what the weird looking eyelash curler is for and which color to put on what area on my face. One of the brands she always keep is Estee Lauder. I guess because of this, I've always labeled Estee Lauder as a beauty brand for the "mature" and the "old". Subconsciously, I've never really considered adding any Estee Lauder product both in my personal and professional kit, until I was asked to do a stint for them last ... Continue reading ...

Unlike most women, I highly crave meat and protein-rich food than carbs. I'd gladly pass up on dessert to devour a lean piece of steak. I cannot give up eating meat, though I've tried doing so a couple of times in 2006 after seeing a video on animal rights by PETA. It has saddened me to realize I can never be a vegetarian. But even so, I still advocate animal rights, being a pet owner myself. So here's something to help support an advocacy on animal rights:

Q: I always wake up with pillow creases on my face. What's the fastest way to remove and smooth them away?
A: Splash warm water on your skin, then massage in a moisturizer. Skin cells contain fluid that acts as a cushion to keep the skin plump. When you're lying with your face smushed into a pillow for eight hours, that fluid seeps out of cells and is absorbed by your body. This leads to creases! Once you get out of bed, skin cells will gradually plump up with fluid. The warm water speeds this... Continue reading ...

Lately, I've noticed to have increasing number of young clients who are having their eyebrows and lash lines tattooed. By young I mean those in their late 20's and early 30's. Good thing there are already beauty salons offering good shades of brown that would look natural and won't turn green or gray as years pass. Unfortunately, there's still the pain factor that most women cannot tolerate and the healing time that they can't wait out.
Good news! K-Palette, the Japanese brand that specializes... Continue reading ...

With the advent of high definition technology, upgrading my make-up to high definition was only but necessary. Sadly, we only have a good few ones to choose from in our shelves. So when I learned that Koh Gen Do finally arrived in our shores, I definitely opened up my schedule to attend their launch.

Who doesn’t love Halloween? Well, uhm, I don’t. Not that I’m kill-joy or anything, but I just don’t find Halloween a holiday worthy of celebration. I find the quest for the best outrageous costume too time-consuming and exhausting, not to mention having fake scars and blood all over. Crackle nail polish; orange eyeshadow; hair feathers. The beauty trends of spring and summer were audacious, bohemian, and sometimes, downright insane.
Luckily, for our beauty sanity, the trends for this fall are way more understated. Models on runways were rocking modern takes on classic looks with bold brows, skin-flattering lip colors, and barely there foundation. Here are 10 makeup looks from Fall 2011 Fashion Week that will help you tiptoe into the new season.

Q: I'm not comfortable wearing too much make-up on and I only like to put on blush and nothing else. Do you think blush is enough to enhance my face? Can you please give me tips on how to enhance my features with just blush?

Q: Is it true that waterproof mascaras are bad for the lashes?
A: The thing about mascaras with waterproof formula, they don't really harm the lashes per se but they're harder to take off at night. So it is more likely that you will be rougher on your lashes when trying to remove the mascara, which risks lash loss. As long as you're gentle with your lashes when removing the product, I don't see any harm. Also, use a reputable oil-based eye makeup remover to dissolve the mascara completely an... Red lips are perfect holiday party makeup—I can't think of anything else that looks as instantly sexy or festive—but they do require some TLC. Here's some tricks on how to achieve the perfect red lips for the holidays.
Find your best red. If you want to try something trendy, orange-red lips are popular right now. And as for skin tone, orange-red works on mostly everyone, though it can bring out any yellow in your teeth. If you want to play it safe, a blue-based classic red is universally ...

A recent story in People claims Pete Wentz actually isn't a fan of wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's recently-cropped hair. Her new cut is sharp and crisp—she looks sophisticated, more like the hip young mom she is and less like a teenage pop star she used to be. But it isn't really a surprise that no matter how much I like her new style, her husband might not. The beauty lore has always been that men prefer women to have long hair. In my own life, it proves certainly as true. I've had a chin-len... Continue reading ...

Apparently, a new study from Manchester University found that men notice lips far more than other features on the face. Scientists used eye-tracking software to show that, in ten seconds, men will spend more than half of that time staring at a woman’s lips. Geoff Beattie, who led the investigation, examines the red lip trend that started way before Swift took the stage (or was even born). “Our research suggests that lip color and perceived attractiveness are still inextricably linked, wit... The latest on lip make-up innovation? A lip primer that mattifies any lipstick while at the same time providing moisture to the lips. Chapped-lip season is not quite the best time for a matte lip (as most matte-finish lipsticks have drying ingredients that flakes the lips). As temperatures continue their downward spiral and our shiny lip balm usage continues to climb, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a perfectly glisten-less texture. But leave it to Serge Lutens to offer up a sol... Continue reading ...

We all need a change every now and then. From our clothes to the music we listen to, a little bit of variety is essential to keep a dynamic life. So, why should we have the same hairstyle day in and day out? Wigs were once the rave years ago but then the heat one endures underneath just isn't worth it. Thank God for beauty scientists who created hair extensions, now we can look and feel like a different person any time we want to.

It was cute to see Hilary Swank pair an aqua eyeliner with her aqua-colored dress. Today, I just heard that Diane Kruger used to pick out dresses based on whether they would match her signature red lips. While I'm not thinking "will this halter dress go with my favorite shadow?" when shopping, I definitely put thought into how my makeup will jive with the rest of my outfit. In my previous post just a few weeks ago, I tackled one of women's (as well as men's) biggest skin problems -- blackheads. I lined out tips on how to get rid of them and also gave out some advices on how to prevent getting them again. From that day on when I wrote the article, I was in a perpetual hunt for products to fight those pesky pepper-like dots. I found 3 of the best products that you may want to include in your skincare regimen to help you banish those blackheads.
Aside from visiting my two-month old niece, I flew to Bangkok last week to attend one of Asia's most prestigious cosmetics trade show. In-cosmetics Asia was designed and established for cosmetic manufacturers, formulators, scientists and sales & marketing experts keen to meet exhibiting personal care ingredient suppliers. I already have a fair share of experience in the marketing and creative side of the beauty industry, I thought maybe it's time I learn the technical aspect of it. The focus ... Continue reading ...

One of the things that makes me rethink growing my locks long is a Hollywood celebrity pulling off a fab short haircut. I almost got distracted and wanted to call my hairstylist to book an appointment when I saw Scarlett Johansson’s summer bob in its shorter crop version. At the Mango Fashion Awards in Barcelona last week, ScarJo sported an even choppier version of the original cut, which now grazes the nape of her neck with thinned out, longer wisps in front. However, for three months now, I can't seem to shift away from my bathroom body goodies, dare I say staples (a non-existent word in my vocabulary). Raven beauty Anne Hathaway has debuted her new short pixie cut while filming her new movie in France. Fans of the Devil Wears Prada star were shocked that she pulled an Emma Watson, for the same reason that the look is required for a movie. But damn, we've been had: The new pixie cut Anne Hathaway’s been sporting around town is not in fact a crop at all; it’s a wig—and a damn good one, too! Her representative has confirmed that the new shorn look is nothing other than movie magic and is... Continue reading ...

I'm not one who's picky on cleansers as I feel they all just do one thing: to cleanse. I feel that cleansers have no other benefits but to cleanse and the ingredients aren't so important as you wash them away anyways as compared to lotions or serums that is left on your skin. But upon seeing Pond's Pure White Deep Cleansing Facial Foam with Activated Charcoal, I knew I needed to get myself one. Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon that has been processed to ma... Continue reading ...

As a make-up artist, it is a must that I offer airbrush make-up to my clients. But if you only use make-up for personal use, it might not be practical to get yourself an airbrush gun and kit. So how do you get that airbrush finish without spending tens of thousands? The answer: the stippling brush. Much like a high quality photo, the more dots per-inch (dpi), the better the pictures look. This is the basic fundamental concept of airbrushing, and also applies to stippling.

Call it a case of indecision or perhaps a love affair with California surfer culture: Two-tone hair is clearly the do to rock before summer ends. Drew Barrymore has been spotted trotting around London with peroxide-dipped tips in stark contrast to her dark crown. Rachel Bilson and Leighton Meester have shown off more subtle gradations on the beachy look, and Allison Sarofim’s bleached waves added edge to her Hamptons-appropriate ensemble. Despite the trend’s obvious California references,... Continue reading ...

While black is a wardrobe staple for many women, its appearance on fingertips may be a touch too moody for personal or workplace tastes. That's why this year's fall seasonal nail colors are so fantastic: the muted shades of putty, gray and greige (a mix of gray and beige) complement all skin tones and offer a slightly toned-down way to be edgy and trendy. I've never been one who's welcoming of trends in a snap, especially when it contradicts my style and personality, but I gave this trend a t...

Another reason why I'm patiently growing my hair longer -- the fancy ponytail. I just can’t pass up the chance to discuss a good showing when I see one. Most people I know rely on pencils when defining their brows as it's the easiest way to "draw". However, it gives out that "drawn on" look with those, making brows look harsh and unnatural. As for powders, I feel that the loose pigments make the brows look bland and inexact. Personally, I prefer shading my arches with cake or wax product as the moist texture makes brows look more groomed afterwards, and it leaves a nice tint that makes your brows look more distinct. The pigments are not as vi... Continue reading ...

Cherry red, hot pink, tangerine... The entirety of Milan to New York to Tokyo has been loud enough to express lip color boldness this year. However, in a still conservative country like ours, we still find ourselves hesitant to venture into boldness together with those trend-setting nations. This weekend in the Hamptons, Ashley Greene showed up at a benefit for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund with a shorter, just-past-the-collarbone haircut. Although most are suckers for long, flowing hair, I'm sure every woman adores the bounce and effortlessness of Greene's new length. So how do you know when you need a real haircut? Hairstylist Oscar Blandi explains the signs:

Sienna Miller has been boho royalty since she made her grand entrance on the public stage during her first romance with Jude Law. To properly welcome SJP NYC into her fragrance portfolio, Sarah Jessica Parker held court in front of a room of editors, bloggers, and twitter enthusiasts this morning. The strawberry/gardenia eau hit counters this week and should draw quite the crowd as Carrie Bradshaw fans brace for the forthcoming Sex and the City sequel and the marketing blitz that will accompany it. “I can’t really compartmentalize this one quite yet,” Parker said of her latest perfume, which is the most whimsical ...

Last February 17 at Oscar de la Renta, manicurist Yuna Park applied a totally lust-worthy deep asphalt lacquer to models’ fingertips. “I couldn’t find the right shade so I had to make this one,” Park told the media, dashing any hopes we may have had about getting our hands on a bottle. But all is not lost: Park used a nearly identical grayish-blue varnish the next morning at the L’Wren Scott show. (Even Scott herself was sporting it and reportedly created this version with Lancôme...

Imagine walking in for a manicure appointment...and having one of the most style-obsessed women in sports ready to do your buff and polish. Serena wrote on her blog that she's enrolled in a 240-hour program to become a certified nail technician just after returning from the Australian Open. She'll spend the year (normally a six week program) getting her certification. She wrote, "No one likes getting their nails done more than I do. As a matter of fact I go every 4 days to get a manicure and ...

Have you ever thought, "My life would be so much better if only there were a facial for my crotch"? Me neither, but San Francisco's Stript Wax Bar is introducing the Vajacial. Suggested for women who get Brazilian waxes, the trademarked treatment aims to do for your ladybits what a facial does for your face. "We developed the Vajacial to really address and treat the key needs of anyone who gets waxed," Stript owner Katherine Goldman said in a press release. "Your 'little lady' will thank us!"... Colored hair streaks will remain popular through the Fall, and if hair colorist Eva Scrivo has anything to say about it, they’ll be adopted by even the classiest of ladies. There was no Manic Panic or Streekers to be found backstage at Cynthia Rowley last week; instead, Scrivo had come armed with mounds of crimped hair extensions in varying shades of peach, teal, navy, amethyst, and cassis. “I used the straight additives from Wella Professionals Koleston Perfect Special Mix,” Scrivo exp... Shock hit the international fashion world today as news of British designer McQueen's apparent suicide circled the globe, the same day fashion week kicked off in New York.
McQueen, 40, was found dead at his home in west London this morning. Scotland Yard is not treating the death as suspicious, but early reports of a suicide have not been confirmed by police.
"We are devastated and in shock," said Samantha Garrett, the communications director for the Alexander McQueen fashion house.

Lancôme has signed YouTube makeup-artistry phenom Michelle Phan to be the brand’s official video makeup artist, making it the first luxury brand to have a social media superstar on its roster. Phan, a 22-year-old Tampa, Florida, native, has over 106,407,340 views on her own YouTube channel of makeup tutorials, so it strikes us as a pretty good marketing move to bring her on board. Don’t be shocked if/when other brands follow suit.

Guess what my current beauty obsession is. Yes that's right, teeth! In my last few days in Los Angeles last year, I noticed my teeth yellowed from too much coffee and soda intake. I’ve never been much of an eye shadow wearer, as I have a highly pigmented upper eye lid. This is both a good and bad thing; the medium color gives off the illusion of permanent makeup, which I don’t mind, but if I dabble in azure and emerald shadows, they never show up quite as true as I’d like. If you share my pain—or suffer from another common eye shadow affliction (e.g., its tendency to fade)—Benefit has a solution. Its new Stay Don't Stray primer uses sodium hyaluronate to hydr...

Those J.Crew cardi sets and the Jason Wu inaugural gown may have made headlines, but this right here is front-page news if we’ve ever seen it: The First Lady has appeared to cut her hair, foregoing the increasingly popular "lob" in favor of a shorter, more conservative version of Posh Spice’s early trips to the chopping block.
