The Magic Brush

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, In : Reviews

As a make-up artist, it is a must that I offer airbrush make-up to my clients. But if you only use make-up for personal use, it might not be practical to get yourself an airbrush gun and kit. So how do you get that airbrush finish without spending tens of thousands? The answer: the stippling brush. Much like a high quality photo, the more dots per-inch (dpi), the better the pictures look. This is the basic fundamental concept of airbrushing, and also applies to stippling.

Prevent Dengue, Be Secured

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, In : Reviews
One of the major health problems during rainy season is the incidence of dengue. The Department of Health (DOH) fears that there could be 80,000 dengue cases by the end of 2010, as the number of patients continues to go up. As of August 14 this year, 54,659 dengue cases have been recorded nationwide. From this figure, 2,966 cases were recorded in the first two weeks of August alone and forecasted to exceed July cases of 17,000.

Good thing there are insect repellants available in the market tod...

Ombré Hair Color

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, August 26, 2010, In : Trend Reports
Call it a case of indecision or perhaps a love affair with California surfer culture: Two-tone hair is clearly the do to rock before summer ends. Drew Barrymore has been spotted trotting around London with peroxide-dipped tips in stark contrast to her dark crown. Rachel Bilson and Leighton Meester have shown off more subtle gradations on the beachy look, and Allison Sarofim’s bleached waves added edge to her Hamptons-appropriate ensemble. Despite the trend’s obvious California references,...

Gray Nails for Fall 2010

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, August 26, 2010, In : Trend Reports

While black is a wardrobe staple for many women, its appearance on fingertips may be a touch too moody for personal or workplace tastes. That's why this year's fall seasonal nail colors are so fantastic: the muted shades of putty, gray and greige (a mix of gray and beige) complement all skin tones and offer a slightly toned-down way to be edgy and trendy. I've never been one who's welcoming of trends in a snap, especially when it contradicts my style and personality, but I gave this trend a t...

Kate Beckinsale's Fancy Ponytail

Posted by Dior Co on Thursday, August 26, 2010, In : Celebrities

Another reason why I'm patiently growing my hair longer -- the fancy ponytail. I just can’t pass up the chance to discuss a good showing when I see one. Behold, Kate Beckinsale’s voluminous pony at the U.S. premiere of Going the Distance in LA this week. A combination of back-combing and finger-combing made this bodacious updo possible—it’s one part girl next door, another part professional athlete, and 100 percent red-carpet-ready. I can't wait to try this one. Maybe in 5 months I fi...

Perfect Arch Eyebrow Kit

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, In : Reviews

Most people I know rely on pencils when defining their brows as it's the easiest way to "draw". However, it gives out that "drawn on" look with those, making brows look harsh and unnatural. As for powders, I feel that the loose pigments make the brows look bland and inexact. Personally, I prefer shading my arches with cake or wax product as the moist texture makes brows look more groomed afterwards, and it leaves a nice tint that makes your brows look more distinct. The pigments are not as vi...

How To Pull Off Bright Lips

Posted by Dior Co on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, In : Tips

Cherry red, hot pink, tangerine... The entirety of Milan to New York to Tokyo has been loud enough to express lip color boldness this year. However, in a still conservative country like ours, we still find ourselves hesitant to venture into boldness together with those trend-setting nations. I've been blogging about some bold lip colors lately, specifically
barbie pink and orange, and have gotten some feedback from my readers as to how to pull off such show-stopping hues. Here's my answer to ...

Eat, Pray, Love, Spritz

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010,

Eat, Pray, Love hits theaters in August, but the hype surrounding the epically popular chick-lit book’s cinematic debut has been going strong for months. The on-screen version of Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling tome stars Julia Roberts as Gilbert portraying the author’s tale of self-discovery. The beauty connection may not be apparent at first, but oh, it’s there. Gilbert’s sensory detail leaves much room for conjuring all kinds of tactile, aromatic, and palatable images—somethin...

Chanel's First Ever Celebrity Nail Artist

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Interviews

I'm always amazed by stories of how an ordinary human being shifts from a secured job to a life-transforming career. Exhibit A: Tom Bachik makes for an unlikely manicurist. A California skater boy with a graphic design background, Bachik fell into the nail business in 1994 and has since built up an impressive clientele (ScarJo, Gwen Stefani, and Victoria Beckham are all fans). It’s thanks to his Hollywood cred that Chanel—a brand that has recently become as famous for its ready-to-wear na...

No More Dirty Looks

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Reviews

With a trio of Democratic lawmakers introducing the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010 before Congress last week, the green beauty movement has been gaining more speed recently. Just in time for No More Dirty Looks, a new eco-guide to finding safe and clean personal care products. Authors Siobhan O’Connor, an editor at Good magazine, and Alexandra Spunt, a journalist and marketing consultant, decided to pen the book after getting Brazilian blow-outs and wondering which ingredient in the formula sme...

Emma Watson - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Celebrities

More news about Emma Watson’s much discussed new pixie cut has surfaced. Word on the street is that the Burberry muse cut her locks for a chance at the lead role in the highly anticipated film version of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. As Hollywood’s highest paid actress is 2009, Emma Watson has one of the most valuable manes in the business. But with the final two films in the Harry Potter series set for November 2010 and July 2011 releases, it looks like she’s ready...

Orange is the New Red

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Make-up Looks

Orange lipstick is one of those bold makeup choices that I always thought was more about the attitude of the wearer than anything about their complexion, style, or any other superficial trait. There's no better time to test your bold attitude than now when the red carpet and runways have been flocked by celebs sporting the funkier version of the classic red. Tangerine, tomato, copper, coral, peach, mango and even a cinnamon orange lipstick is very becoming this year for events, shows and even...

Signature Scent

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010,

signaturescent_main.jpgIn Allure's August issue, Eva Mendes confesses that she's been wearing the same fragrance sinceseventh grade, "I wanted to smell like a woman then, so I bought Estée Lauder Knowing." I haven't been going steady with our fragrance for that long, but I can certainly relate to Mendes's love and loyalty.

I got my first whiff of Blue by Ralph Lauren from a magazine scent strip. I think I gave my wrist a paper cut trying to get that smell of soft florals abreast with watery freshness onto my skin i...

Signs You Need A Haircut

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, In : Tips

ashgreene1_main.jpgThis weekend in the Hamptons, Ashley Greene showed up at a benefit for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund with a shorter, just-past-the-collarbone haircut. Although most are suckers for long, flowing hair, I'm sure every woman adores the bounce and effortlessness of Greene's new length. So how do you know when you need a real haircut? Hairstylist Oscar Blandi explains the signs:

—"Your hairstylist cut layers the last time you got your hair cut, and now your hair is nearing one length."

—"You'...

Don't Waste Your Eye Make-up

Posted by Dior Co on Wednesday, August 11, 2010,

There's nothing worse (in the world of makeup) than spending the time applying your makeup only to go out of the house to find minutes, hours, later it looks like you have no makeup on. As a make-up artist, it is my duty that the make-up I do on my clients stays as long as it needs to be. You'll probably see half a dozen of primers if you dig into my make-up kit. And it's a no miss that you'll always see this eyeshadow base in my arsenal. This genie in a bottle fulfills three of an artist's w...
